Colombo Chief Magistrate Buddhika C.Ragala yesterday (02) ordered the Cinnamon Gardens Police to take legal action against those who do not comply with the health guidelines issued by the Director General of Health Services.
The Magistrate said this while rejecting a request made by the Cinnamon Gardens Police to issue an order preventing a protest against the Kotelawala University
Bill which was scheduled to be held near the Colombo University Grants Commission yesterday (02) at 2.00 pm.
The Magistrate pointed out that the Police have the power to enforce the law against a person who acts in violation of the health guidelines issued by the Director General of Health Services.The Colombo Chief Magistrate told the Cinnamon Gardens Police that the country and the Government could be severely inconvenienced by using the Covid pandemic to suppress the freedom of expression enshrined in the Constitution.
