Amila Aponso to begin new career in US

Former Sri Lanka slow left-arm orthodox bowler Amila Aponso has decided to bid farewell to Sri Lanka cricket and commence a new career in the US.

The 27-year-old former Captain of Ragama CC will now turn professional in the US where he will function both as a player and coach in the Minor League Cricket Tournament.

The former schoolboy of St. Sebastian’s College, Moratuwa also had the distinction of representing the Sri Lanka Under-19 side. After leaving school, Aponso began his First-Class career at Colts CC and crossed over to Ragama CC where he excelled with the ball for over eight years.

He has claimed 273 First-Class wickets in 62 matches with best figures of eight for 148 with an average of 23.43.

Aponso started his One Day International (ODI) career with a match against Australia at the R. Premadasa Stadium in 2016. He played nine ODIs claiming 10 wickets with best figures of four for 18 and also figured in three T20Is for his country.
