Give students free online facilities or TV lessons - NPP

Students should be provided with free online facilities or the government should conduct school lessons via television to minimise the education disparities caused based on facilities, NPP MP Vijitha Herath told Parliament yesterday.

He made the suggestion joining the adjournment motion moved by SJB MP Ranjith Madduma Bandara.

MP Herath said that whatever said, the government has not been able to control the third wave of the COVID-19 pandemic. He added many other issues have arisen with the COVID-19 pandemic.

He said that in Free Trade Zones employees are living in congested boarding rooms with many colleagues. “They are transported in vehicles with many others. A mechanism should be introduced to monitor and prevent them. If not, the endeavour by the government would prove a failure,” he said.

The flood is unprecedented in Gampaha and Meerigama. He added that it is because of the Expressway construction. He added that a sustainable programme should be implemented to prevent these issues. He also added that a criminal investigation should be commenced on the X-Press Pearl ship incident. The policy of the government was to introduce organic fertilizer in 10 years. But doing it within a year has serious repercussions, he said.
