The Batticaloa District recorded 95 COVID-19 cases and five COVID-19 deaths on Sunday. A pregnant woman was among the deceased persons, health officials said.
The distribution of cases was as follows: 18 in Kattankudy, 16 in Oddamavadi, 14 in the Batticaloa town, 10 each in Koralai Pattu and Vavunativu, eight in Kaluwanchikudy, seven in Paddipalai, six in Kiran, three in Chenkalady, two in Vellaveli, and one in Eravur.
Twenty persons who had close contact with the five deceased have been placed under quarantine in the Arasady and Koddaimunai areas. Meanwhile, 12 of 117 persons arrested and quarantined for breaking travel restrictions tested positive for COVID-19 on Sunday.
