Health Minister Pavithra Wanniarachchi inspected the activities of the Navinna Bandaranaike Ayurvedic Research Hospital in Maharagama yesterday (02). Indigenous Medicine Promotion, Rural and Ayurvedic Hospital Development and Community Health State Minister Sisira Jayakody was also present on the occasion.
On the instructions of President Gotabaya Rajapaksa, the Ministry of Health recently decided to convert 50 Ayurvedic Hospitals islandwide into Intermediate COVID Treatment Centres.
Accordingly, the Minister of Health Pavithra Wanniarachchi inspected the activities of the Navinna Bandaranaike Ayurvedic Research Hospital in Maharagama yesterday (02) which will begin COVID-19 treatment operations today.
The Minister of Health said that President Gotabaya Rajapaksa instructed that Ayurvedic Hospitals in the island be used as COVID Intermediate Treatment Centres. Accordingly, about 50 Ayurvedic hospitals in the country are scheduled to be converted to intermediate COVID Treatment Centres. COVID-19 patients admitted to the Navinna Ayurveda Hospital will be treated under the supervision of doctors in Ayurveda and Western medicine.
This Ayurvedic Hospital is affiliated with the Maharagama Apeksha Hospital. It has 100 beds. It also has a separate ward for Buddhist Monks. It also has facilities to treat 65 men, 35 women and 10 Monks. The Ministry of Health has deployed hospital staff including Ayurvedic doctors who have been specially trained on COVID treatment for daily examination of patients.
Western doctors have been attached to the Apeksha Hospital in Maharagama. Arrangements have also been made to provide oxygen facilities to the patients receiving treatment here.
Indigenous Medicine Promotion, Rural and Ayurvedic Hospital Development and Community Health State Minister Sisira Jayakody was also present on the occasion.
Secretary to the Ministry of Indigenous Medicine Kumari Weerasekera, Commissioner of Ayurveda Medavi Dissanayake, Director of the Ayurvedic Research Hospital Dr.Senaka Pilapitiya, Deputy Director Swarna Kalutota, Acting Medical Officer in charge of the Intermediate Treatment Centre P.Sivakumar were also present.
