Over 2,000 passengers arrive at BIA in 24 hours

A total of 2,068 passengers arrived at the Bandaranaike International Airport (BIA) in Katunayake within 24 hours after the end of the ban on passenger arrivals on Tuesday.

An airport official said that the passengers arrived on 29 flights.

Accordingly, 103 passengers from Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, 135 from Doha, Qatar and 116 from Dubai, United Arab Emirates have arrived in the country.

Sri Lanka re-opened all its international airports from midnight Monday (May 31) for passenger arrivals from all countries except India and Vietnam, after closing the airport for arrivals for 10 days.

All passengers arriving in Sri Lanka will be subject to a compulsory 14-day quarantine period as per the instructions of the health authorities, He said the passengers would have to come with a negative PCR test and added they would also be subject to another PCR test upon arrival at the BIA and the Mattala Airports.

“Then they will be directed to a 14-day quarantine period. We will also be conducting another PCR test in about 10 days. If the PCR test is confirmed negative, we will release them to society,” he said.
