Cabinet approval has been granted to implement a housing project for estate workers in Malinboda.
The project has been implemented after a request by the estate workers during the Gama Samanga Pilisandara (Dialogue with Village) with President Gotabaya Rajapaksa in Deraniyagala, Co-Cabinet Spokesman Mass Media Minister Keheliya Rambukwella said.
He was speaking at the weekly Cabinet media briefing yesterday at the Government Information Department where he also said that 171 houses will be constructed for the estate workers.
The Government of India has agreed to provide Rs. 500 million as a grant to construct 480 houses for the estate workers including these 171 houses, the Minister said.
The Cabinet approved the resolution by the Prime Minister in his capacity as the Urban Development and Housing Minister to set up 171 housing units in Malinboda and 60 houses of them will be constructed as the first phase by the State Engineering Cooperation, the Minister said.
