Opposition Leader and wife tests COVID positive

Leader of the Opposition Sajith Premadasa and his wife have tested positive for COVID-19.

He confirmed this posting on his social media a short while ago


Sajith, wife test COVID positive

Opposition Leader Sajith Premadasa said he has tested positive for COVID-19 and is being treated at hospital. His wife Jalani Premadasa has also tested positive for COVID-19. Premadasa said that even though he remains asymptomatic, his wife is being treated for her symptoms.

“Yesterday, my wife was admitted to hospital with symptoms of Covid-19. She subsequently tested positive having done a PCR.

Following Health Guidelines, I did a PCR as well and was informed a short while ago that I too, have tested positive, the Opposition Leader posted in his official Facebook page.

He requested the people to comply with health guidelines aimed at controlling the spread of the virus.

The Opposition Leader however said that his main focus is to ensure the safety of people during these extremely difficult times.

“I urge the public to remain safe, and follow all Health Guidelines and Strictures as we fight this wave together, as a nation. We can beat this,” he said.


Close associates in House to be identified

The Serjeant-at-Arms has begun identifying close associates of the Opposition Leader Sajith Premadasa after he was tested COVID-19 positive, Serjeant-at-Arms Narendra Fernando (22) said today. Accordingly, several parliamentarians have been requested to self-quarantine. All identified close associates will accordingly be notified, Fernando also said. The Opposition Leader Sajith Premadasa was present at the Chamber on all three days of last week’s Parliament session. (AM)
