Nethma Ashen Rodrigo a prolific run getter

Left hand opening batsman, off spinner, specialist close in safe fielder and third year coloursman Lokuge Nethma Ashen Rodrigo has brought honour and fame to his Alma Mater Piliyandala Central College.

He was born on 19th May 2004 and admitted to the Grade One of Somaweera Chandrasiri Primary School in 2010 and he was there since 2014 and there were no sports activities in that school and he joined his present school in 2015 and during this period Darshana Udawatte was at the helm of the school and his class teacher was Mrs. Disna Kumari.


Ashen Rodrigo

Since his younger days he was keen on cricket and his parents Lasantha Rodrigo and Disna Kumari Rodrigo noticing his talents decided to admit their son to the school Cricket Academy and in 2015 he came under former Centralian cricketer Bimal Amarasinghe and in the same year under Mr. Vinoj in the under 13 Division Three team he passed the 200 run mark and in the following year captaining under 13 Division One team he scored more than 300 runs with a half century and bagged 15 scalps with a five wicket haul.

He was an unanimous choice for the under 15 Division One team in the following year and he collected 452 runs with three fifties and grabbed 22 wickets and played for the Prima Cup and in the next year captaining the team under Amal Senadeera with his previous performances under his belt he easily walked into the first eleven team and played in 10 matches and came under former Cambrian Cricketer Eranga Gunaratne in 2018/19 season led by Malshan Gunathilake and showed his class and as an under 15 player he passed the 400 run mark with two fifties and played in the Big Match and the One Dayer versus their arch rivals Taxila Central Horana and his Master in Charge and Prefect of Games was Aruna Liyanage and Ashley Karunaratne respectively.

In the following season under Chamod Sandaru once again he passed 400 runs with two half centuries with two consecutive fifties in the Big Match and the Limited Over Match. This year playing in the Limited Over Division Two Cricket Tournament organized by Sri Lanka Schools Cricket Association he scored 190 runs and notched up 75 runs against St. Peters College Negombo and Centralians reached the quarter finals. His Principal Darshana Udawatte is extending his fullest support to his school cricket.
