Uncapped left-arm orthodox spinner Praveen Jayawickrama of Moors SC has been called up for the Sri Lanka Test Squad for the two-Test series against Bangladesh, which begins at the Pallekele Stadium in Kandy next week.

The promising 22-year-old spinner has been included in the 18-member squad in place of left-arm spinner Lasith Embuldeniya who suffered an injury during the second Test against the West Indies in Antigua.

The former schoolboy of St. Sebastian’s College, Moratuwa, made his First-Class debut for Colts CC in the 2018/19 SLC Premier League Tournament.

Prior to his First-Class debut, he was named in Sri Lanka’s Squad for the 2018 Under-19 Cricket World Cup. He made his List ‘A’ debut in December, 2019 for Moors SC.

Jayawickrama was among the wickets in the recently-concluded SLC Major Club Limited Over Cricket Tournament capturing 15 scalps in seven matches.

Meanwhile, the National Cricket Selectors have also recalled former Skipper Angelo Mathews after the all-rounder pulled out during the One Day International series in the West Indies due to family commitments.

Paceman Dushmantha Chameera has withdrawn from the squad due to personal reasons, while Lahiru Kumara who missed the West Indies tour after he tested positive for COVID-19, is back in the squad.
