Nilani Ratnayake won the Women’s 3000m steeplechase event at the National Athletic Trials, which commenced at the Sugathadasa Stadium in Colombo yesterday.
Ratnayake representing Sri Lanka Army won this event in nine minutes 57.81s while A. N. L Ariyadasa of Air Force was second with 11 minutes and 4.52s and the third place was won by W. N. H. Kumari of Navy with a time of 11 minutes 15.99s.
Meanwhile, Gayanthika Abeyratne won the Women’s 1,500m in four minutes 24.06s.
K. Shanmugeswaran of Army won the Men’s 10,000m event with a time of 31 minutes 29.31s while R. M. S. Pushpakumara of Army won the Men’s 3,000m steeplechase event in eight minutes 59.51s.
Hirusha Eshan of Sri Lanka Schools performed well to win the junior Men’s long jump event with a distance of 7.51m.
Anjani Pulwansa once again won the Women’s long jump event with a distance of 6.26m while E. M. S Upeksha was second with 5.8m and the third place was won by Nethmi Meghawarna with 5.74m.
Sri Lanka sprinter Himasha Eshan won the Men’s 100m with 10.58s while Amasha de Silva won the Women’s 100m final with a time of 11.79s.
Dilshi Kumarasinghe won the Women’s 400m final with a time of 53.43s while the Men’s 400m final was won by Kalinga Kumarage with a time of 45.99s. (D.R)
