Many Bills in next three months being bought to strengthen legal system – Minister Prof. G.L. Peiris

Sri Lanka Podujana Peramuna (SLPP) Chairman, Education Minister Prof. G.L. Peiris said that 65 per cent of the Bills to be submitted in Parliament in the next three months are related to law.

The Minister said that by strengthening the legal system, the country can overcome the challenges.

He said by passing these ordinances, reforms will be brought in all areas in the legal field.

He was addressing the SLPP Colombo District Bar Association Conference at the Waters Edge Hotel in Colombo on Wednesday..

The Minister said that the law reform programme is being carried out with the leadership of Justice Minister Ali Sabry, PC.

The Minister requested the support of all lawyers for the proposed reforms.

The Minister said that outdated laws sometimes cause problems and embarrassment to the Government.

He said that if all lawyers speak with one voice, all local and international challenges could be overcome.
