Sri Lankan boat with 300kg of heroin, arms, ammunition seized

The Indian Coast Guard and the Narcotics Control Bureau has seized a Sri Lankan boat carrying 300 kg of heroin, five AK-47 rifles and ammunition on March 25, off the coast of Vizhinjam in Kerala.

In a statement on Tuesday (30), the Narcotics Control Bureau (NCB) said that six Sri Lankan nationals on the boat named ‘Ravihansi’, heading to Sri Lanka, were arrested. The Indian Coast Guard had intercepted the Sri Lankan fishing vessel, Ravihansi, in Indian waters off the coast of Vizhinjam in Kerala, based on intelligence reports received by the Indian Coast Guard and NCB.

The Indian authorities had seized 300.323 kg of heroin along with five AK-47 rifles and 1,000 rounds of 9mm ammunition from the boat. The Indian media also reported that several incriminating documents were also seized from the occupants of the vessel. It was reported that the Indian authorities had recovered the stock of heroin which had been meticulously concealed inside the water tank of the vessel packed in 301 parcels.
