Ashwin, the second fastest to take 400 Test wickets

Thirty four year old Indian right arm off spinner Ravichandran Ashwin reached the landmark of 400 Test wickets in his 77 Test match by claiming the wicket of England fast bowler Jofra Archer in the third test match in Ahmedabad.

“It is an amazing feeling to reach 400 Test wickets. The entire stadium stood up and clapped me. I was delighted to contribute to the team’s victory. But Axar (Patel) bowled beautifully in the third innings. I can’t believe what has happened in the last three months. It has been a dream run for me” said Ashwin.

Only Muttiah Muralitharan has taken fewer matches to claim 400 scalps in test cricket. He took just 72 tests in nine years and 110 days. Ashwin took only 54 tests to claim 300 wickets becoming the quickest to reach 300 wickets in test cricket thus far. He remains the only Indian all rounder to score a hundred and bag five wickets in an innings in the same test three times. Also to date he has received seven player of the series awards, the most by an Indian in test cricket.
