First to quarantine, then to Police custody

The Galle Police arrested a suspect who had returned to Sri Lanka after six years abroad in the wake of being issued an open warrant by two courts soon after his compulsory quarantine period.

The suspect is identified as Mohammad Tawfiq Mohammad Papawan.

While the cases against the suspect were being heard in the Maligakanda and Colombo Chief Magistrate’s Courts, he had evaded court and gone abroad.

Later, the Maligakanda Magistrate’s Court and the Colombo Chief Magistrate’s Court had ordered that the accused be arrested immediately on his return from abroad and produced before court.

Meanwhile, when he returned to Sri Lanka from Dubai on the 12th instant after six years, he was sent to the Gintota Amari Hotel for quarantine. He was arrested after a two - week quarantine. The suspect has been arrested by Galle Police Crime Investigation Branch OIC IP D.G.Ananda , Sub Inspector Mahilal and is to be produced before the Galle Magistrate’s Court.
