Ishan Chamika Appuhamy -a karateka par excellence

Fourteen year old Karate Gold Medalist and Black Belt Holder . Ishan Chamika Appuhamy has brought honour and fame to his Alma Mater Sri Bodhi Madya Maha Vidyalaya Thaththiripitiya, Welipannagahamulla. He was admitted to this school when Anura Ratnayake was the Principal and his first class teacher was Mrs. Kusum. Upto grade five he did not participate in any game but as he was keen in karate his parents Roshan Chaminda Appuhamy and Nimali Sagarika admitted their son to ISKU Karate Academy and the coach was Sugath Kumara.

In 2015 he attended Karate practices and in the under 10 age group he participated in the Puttalam District Meet and won a Gold for Kata and in the following year at the fifth Semi Contact Karate Championship he claimed a Gold for Kata and in the same year he got a Merit Certificate for Kata and in Kumite he came up to Best Eight in the under 12 age group.

In the same year at the Sri Lanka Karate Championship he won a Gold for Kumite and in 2018 he received a Merit Certificate for participating for Kata and won a Bronze at the North Western Province Karate Meet and in the same meet and in another under 12 N. W. P. Meet he got a Bronze for Kata and in the Puttalam District Karate-Do Association meet he won a Bronze for Kata and in the same age he won Silvers for Kata and Kumite

In the Fifth Open International Semi Contact Shotokan Karate Championship he won a Bronze for Kata and received a Merit Certificate for Kumite. in the under 12 and in 2019 Sri Lanka-Do Puttalam Meet he got Bronzes for Kata and Kumite and in the same year at the Sri Lanka 2nd All Island Shotokan Karate Meet he won a Gold for Kumite and Silver for Kata at the N. W. P. Meet he won a Bronze for Kumite and a Merit Certificate for Kata for participation in the under 14 age group. With all these performances under his belt he was awarded a Black Belt at the ISKU Shotokan Kumite Grading Ceremony in 2020.
