Opposition in political wilderness - Prasanna

The Government’s people oriented policies was once again proved with the withdrawal from the East Container Terminal (ECT) agreement signed by the previous “Yahapalana” regime, Tourism Minister Prasanna Ranatunga said.

“It is a joke that the Yahapalana leaders are now accusing the present Government of selling national assets having sold the Hambantota Port during their regime,” he said. The Minister further said the present Government is gradually withdrawing from the deals and agreements that were entered into by the previous “Yahapalana” Government which would have a negative impact on the country and the people.

The Opposition is now in the political wilderness after this Government decided to operate the ECT as a wholly-owned container terminal of the Sri Lanka Ports Authority (SLPA).

“It was the former Maithri-Ranil Government which attempted to sell the ECT by signing an agreement.

The Cabinet of Ministers of the former regime had also approved it. However, the present Opposition Leader who was a member of the Cabinet in the former regime did not oppose this proposal when it was approved. So, it is hilarious that the Opposition Leader is now accusing the present Government of selling national assets,” he added.
