Ravindu, Fathoum crowned squash champions

Ravindu Laksiri retained the National title for the eighth successive year and Fathoum Issadeen was crowned as the Women’s champion at the 40th National Squash Championships, conducted by Sri Lanka Squash and worked off at the SSC Squash Courts in Maitland Place recently.

Laksiri defeated his opponent Shameel Wakeel in the Men’s Open final 11-6, 11-3, 11-2.

Meanwhile, the defending champion Issadeen outlasted Chanithma Sinaly in the Women’s final 11-3, 11-4, 8-11, 6-11, 11-4.

Amal Edirisooriya, Director General of Sports Development Department attached to the Ministry of Sports graced the occasion as Chief Guest and distributed the awards.

Women’s Novices:

Winner: Ishara Dayarathna, runner-up: Hirunika Shiwangani, third place: Piyumi Wimalasena.

Men’s Novices:

Winner: Shehan Ratnatunga, runner-up: Dinesh Sarathchandra, third place: G. M. W. D. Anuruddha.

Women’s Over-35:

Winner: Niroshi Jayasuriya, runner-up: Lalanthi Daluwatta.

Men’s Over-35:

Winner: K. G. Prabath, runner-up: D. M. R. Dissanayaka, third place: Shehan Ratnathunga.

Men’s Over-40:

Winner: Anura Hewage, runner-up: Colonel Kaminda Silva, Third Place: Ian Herft.

Men’s Over-45:

Winner: Basheer Cader, runner-up: Brigadier W. L. Premasiri, third place: Colonel Kaminda Silva.

Men’s Over-50 Master Open:

Winner: Mohamed Riswan, runner-up: Brigadier W. L. Premasiri, third place: Abdul Cader.

Men’s Over-55 – Veterans Open:

Winner: I. M. Ramzi, runner-up: K. Padmakumara, third place: Rohan Paulas.

Men’s Open - Plate Round:

Winner: Nevindu Lakshman, runner-up: Malith Methsiri.

Womens' Open:

Winner: Fathoum Issadeen, runner-up: Chanithma Sinaly, third place: Yeheni Kuruppu, fourth place: Sameera Deen, fifth place: Dewmini Gallage.

Men’s Open:
