Sixteen year old Athlete and Volleyball Player Chathura Lakshan Liyanage excelled for his Alma Mater President’s College , Medirigiriya, Polonnaruwa. Chathura was admitted to this school when P. K. Weerakkody was the Principal of the school and his first class teacher was Nirosha Ratnayake.

When he was 11 years old he participated in the school’s Inter House Athletic Meet and came first in Long Jump and 200 metres and second in 100 metres and in the Zonal meet he won the Long Jump Event and came second in 100 metre and 200 metre races and in the Provincial Meet he came first in Long Jump. In the following year participating in the under 13 age group he won the school and divisional meets easily and at the Zonal Meet his team won the 100x4 Relay Event and in the District Meet too they won the same event. He was the under 16 Champion Athlete of the school and won the 100, 200 metres and long jump and at the Divisional and Zonal Meets. His Athletic Coach was I. P. Gamini and the Teacher in Charge was Mrs. Udeni Ratnayake.

He commenced playing for School Under 16 Volleyball Team under I. P. Gamini and the Teacher in Charge was Mrs. Udeni Rathnayake. In the Inter House Tournament they were the Champions and Divisional and Zonal meet too their team won and in the Provincial Tournament they came second and he captained the team. Same year they won the District Tournament under his captaincy and in the All Island under 16 tournament they reached up to the quarter finals and in the DSI Tournament they came up to finals.

He played for the Randinu Sports Club for four years and his coaches were Thusitha and Chandrasiri and he also played for the Youth Club under 23 Tournament. His parents encouraged him to join Dhammissara National School Nattandiya to pursue his volleyball career and Keerthi Jayasekera helped him to join Dhammissara. He was selected to the under 16 School Team and they were the under 16 Divisional Champions. His Principal Anil Pushpakumara has helped him to uplift the game in his new school.
