Port Unions call off work-to-rule campaign

Port Trade Unions yesterday said they had withdrawn from the work-to-rule action taken by 22 unions in protest over of the Eastern Terminal divesting plans.

Port Industries and Services Progressive Employees’ Union President Sanjaya Kumara Weligamage said the decision was taken following a Cabinet decision to maintain the Eastern Terminal of the Colombo Port under the Sri Lanka Ports Authority. Ports General Employees Union Secretary Niroshan Gorakanage said that this was a victory for all port workers and that the Western Terminal would also not be allowed to be handed over to a private investor.
