During the meeting focus was placed on the issue of drug trafficking. In addition, intensifying the investigations related to child abuse cases, how to utilize expert evidence in the criminal justice system, and preventive action in respect of crimes was also discussed, Police Spokesman DIG Ajith Rohana said.

He said that all the stakeholders had agreed to take rapid action to deal with such issues, especially the amendment of laws where lacunas exist. Further, all the stakeholders had agreed to conduct operations to break the drug network.

“It has been observed at present that apart from natural drugs such as heroin and cocaine, there is an increasing tendency towards the trafficking of synthetic drugs in the country. Therefore, we are going to implement a special anti-narcotics operation to trace the suspects and drug traffickers,” DIG Ajith Rohana said.

In addition, obtaining the support of our diplomatic missions to extradite the suspects who live in foreign countries who are wanted for various offences committed in Sri Lanka, was also discussed.

“All these matters were discussed and many important decisions were taken to ensure the safety and security of the citizens of this country,” he said.
