Two employees of England team hotel test positive for COVID-19

Two employees from the hotel in Galle where the England cricket team is staying have contracted COVID-19, health sources revealed.

The two victims, both kitchen workers, are residents of Weligama and Rathgama.

As the two employees showed symptoms of infection their biological samples had been taken by an Army medical team and following PCR tests carried out on them, they have been diagnosed to be COVID-19 positive.

Meanwhile, the hotel management said that the two employees, who were infected with the virus, had never been in direct contact with the England cricket team.

According to Health Ministry sources, 10 hotel employees who leave for the stadium daily to attend to the needs of the English players underwent PCR tests before the start of the match and were found to be not infected with Corona.

Moeen Ali, a member of the England team who arrived in Sri Lanka was diagnosed with the new strain of the Coronavirus (Variant) which was first reported from England, health authorities confirmed on January 13. However, the Chief Specialist of the Epidemiology Unit, Dr. Sudath Samaraweera later stated that no one in Sri Lanka had contracted the new COVID variant from the English player.
