Random RAT tests for those leaving Western Province

Random Rapid Antigen Tests will be conducted on individuals leaving the Western Province, Police Media Spokesman DIG Ajith Rohana said.

This initiative was re-implemented at 11 exit points of the Western Province, since yesterday he said. It was first implemented from December 18 to January 5.

DIG Rohana said in the Colombo North and Colombo Central Police Divisions where the quarantine curfew was lifted, there is a risk of occurring new sub clusters as the inmates of these areas are not adhering to the quarantine regulations.

According to him, the police officers in Mufti have observed that people in these areas flock in groups and wear no face masks despite the health guidelines.

Currently, the quarantine isolation order is implemented only in the Kattankudy Police area in addition to several Grama Seva Divisions, streets and areas. But, the DIG warned that such a lockdown would have to be imposed again in Colombo North and Central police divisions if the regulations were not adhered to or violated.

Police have arrested 24 individuals during the past 24 hours for not wearing a face mask in public. In the Western Province alone 2,471 individuals who were not wearing face masks have undergone PCR or Rapid Antigen tests and 47 of them have tested positive so far, the DIG said. Another 603 employees in fish stalls also have undergone Rapid Antigen Tests so far and three of them have tested positive for COVID-19, he said.
