Karate Gold Medallist, Athlete, Elle and Netball Player Warnakulasuriya Hashini Dananja brought honour and glory to her Alma Mater Dhammissara National School Nattandiya. She was admitted to Grade One of Dharmawijaya Vidyalaya Nattandiya in 2006 and her Principal was Udaya Shantha Kumara and her first class teacher was Mrs. Dammika.

During this period there was no sports activities from Grade One to Five in this school. When she came up to Grade Six she participated in the school Inter House Sports Meet in the Under 12 age group and she won in Long Jump and was second in High Jump and she was unsuccessful at the Divisional meet and in the following year she won the first places in both these events. In 2013 she commenced Elle for the under 19 team and represented it from 2012 to 2016 and in 2015 and 2016 she captained the team in the Inter House Tournaments. In the Divisional Tournaments her school won in 2014 and 2015. In 2013 at the Under 15 and 16 age groups they were placed second in the Zonal Meets .

She got through the Ordinary Level Examination and for her higher studies she moved to Dhammissara National School Nattandiya in 2016 she was a member of the team upto 2019 and in 2018 and 2019 she was a member of the School Netball Team.

Though she took part in other games her forte is Karate and at the age of 10 years she joined Susantha Sugath Kumara’s Private Karate Academy of Livera Foundation in 2010 and her first meet was Sri Lanka Japan Shotokan Karate – Do Schools Championship. In 2011 competing in the under 12 age group she won a Gold Medal in Kumite and a Silver for Kata and in the same year participating in the same age group at the 9th Asian Champions Cup she won a Silver in Kumite and in All Island Kata Tournament held in Torrington Square she won a Gold in Kata and in the All Ceylon Kenayuhkai Karate Federation Sri Lanka B. A. T. Livera Memorial Karate Championship Under 12 she won a Silver Medal.

In the Sri Lanka Japan Kumite Tournament she won another Gold in Kumite.

In the Puttalam District Karate Championship she won Golds in Kumite and Kata.

At the 22nd North Western Provincial Karate Championship she won a Gold in Kumite and a Bronze in Kata and in 2012 taking part in the U. K. F. International Karate and Kobudo Championship she won a Gold for Kumite and a Silver in Kata. Finally in the first Japan Ambassadors trophy National Karate Championship she came to the Best Eight in Kumite.

In 2013 at the Karate Tournament she won a Gold in Kumite and she received the First Karate Ban Do – Technical Certificate. Same Year she received G. A. T. Livera Black Belt Grade One from the Livera Foundation. She passed Gimta HA Shotokan Ryu Karate – Do – Association First DAN Diploma and Diploma in Kaitho Mitsomnori World BUT Official Pass and between 2014 to 2017 she temporarily stopped Karate and commencing again in 2018 in Puttalam District Karate Championship she got a Gold for Kumite and Silver for Kata. At the School Inter House Karate meet she won a Silver in the Under 20 Group in 2018. In the same year in the North Western Karate Championship she won a Gold for Kumite and a Bronze for Kata. And again at the Sri Lanka National Meet she won a Gold in Kumite and at the Sri Lanka Schools Karate Championship she won a Gold for Kumite and Silver for Kata. Finally in the under 20 age group All Island Karate Do Championship she won a Gold for Kumite and a Silver for Kata. In 2019 3rd S. A. K. F. Open Karate Championship she won a Gold in Kumite and another Gold for Kata. In the National Sports Festival Meet organized by the Ministry of Telecommunication and Foreign Employment and Sports she won a Gold in Kumite and Kata and at the 45th National Sports Festival at Puttalam she won Bronze Medals for Kumite and Kata.

She passed the National Black Belt karate Do Federation Diploma Examination in 2019 and in the same year she passed the Diploma Exam T. S. K. U. Sri Lanka Branch Second DAN. She is preparing to sit for the Karate Coaches and Referees Examination which will be held in due course.

During her career in Karate she has won 26 Medals which includes 16 Golds seven Silvers and three Bronzes and for this achievement her Karate Coach Sugath Kumara, PoG Keerthi Jayasekera, Deputy Principal Nilmini Rodrigo and the Principal Anil Pushpakumara have extended their fullest support at all times .
