Co-cabinet spokesman Energy Minister Udaya Gammanpila said that the government has decided to increase the daily wage of estate workers upto Rs 1000 in the near future.
Addressing the weekly cabinet media briefing held at the Government Information Department, the Minister said that although it was proposed to provide Rs. 1000 per day to the plantation workers, it should be provided by the plantation companies.
The Ministry of Labor and the Estate Workers' Trade Unions are currently in discussions with the plantation companies and the Minister of Labor will announce the decision in the near future, the Minister said.
