Over 35,000 people of 11,000 families have been affected by the recent torrential rains and heavy floods in the Batticaloa District but none of them sought relief centers.
Eastern Province Governor Anuradha Yahambath said that dry provisions worth Rs. 2.5 million including sprats, rice, sugar and dhal were distributed to 1,800 families in the Eravur Pattu Chenkalady Divisional Secretariat in addition to 1,646 families at the Siththandy School on Friday. Batticaloa Government Agent K.Karunakaran and Divisional Secretary N.Vilvaretnam supported the Governor in the relief distribution.
