Health authorities can decide on tourist arrivals - Minister

Tourism Minister Prasanna Ranatunga said that Ukraine has not been completely locked down and no decision was taken to stop Ukrainian tourists entering the country so far.

The decision to bring in or stop bringing tourists to the country from Ukraine or any other country is up to the COVID Committee and the Health Authorities, the Minister stressed.

“So far, the decision has been taken to stop bringing tourists only from UK by the COVID Committee and the Health Authorities,” he said.

He said that Ukraine has not been completely locked down at present. It has been reported only schools, restaurants and other places where public are gathered have been closed. There are a number of other countries is also in similar situation to Ukraine today.

“However, we are taking whatever decisions considering the prevailing COVID-19 situation in the world and we always follow precautions in bringing tourists to the country,” he added.
