The results of the initial PCR COVID-19 test performed on the Sri Lankan cricket squad which they underwent upon their arrival at their official quarters at the Irene Country Lodge in Centurion last Saturday has indicated negative.

The 34-member contingent (21 players, 11 officials and two Liaison Officers from Cricket South Africa) had undergone the tests at the hotel. According to team sources they are scheduled to repeat the test on 23 December (Wednesday), after which the green light is likely to be given for the team to engage in practice sessions.

Nevertheless, Health Authorities have granted the Lankan camp permission for initial practice sessions in three batches, consisting of seven players per batch.

The entire contingent is in a Bio-Bubble under strict surveillance by the host’s health authorities.

The practice sessions will be held at the Super Sport Park, Centurion where the first Test of the ‘Betway Test Series is scheduled to commence on 26 December (Boxing day).

As per team sources, the day time temperature remains at 22 while it drops down to 14 degrees centigrade at night.

Both teams are housed at the same location without any physical contact with each other.
