Jaffna to get fully-fledged Cricket Stadium

The sports loving public in the North is set to receive a bonanza with the dawn of the new year, as a private investment company has drawn up plans to commence construction of a fully-fledged Cricket Stadium in the vicinity of Jaffna.

This brand-new stadium will be built with state-of-the-art facilities using modern technology, and will have capacity of over 30,000 spectators.

The stadium will have several centre turf wickets and side wickets, indoor nets and other facilities meeting International standards stipulated by the ICC.

Along with this, the authorities have drawn up a plan of putting up a hotel to accommodate the players, guests and tourists. This will no doubt also enable schools, universities and the cricket loving fraternity to unearth hidden talents in the North.

Fully-fledged sports center at Kirimandala Mawatha

Meanwhile, the Sports Ministry has finalized plans to put up a fully-fledged sports center at Kirimandala Mawatha, Narahenpita for the convenience of athletes and others involved in indoor games. It will feature a high-performance center and have facilities for track and field events.

A swimming pool and facilities for indoor sports like Badminton and Squash, to name a few, are also to be included. (AN)
