Errant traders nabbed

Eighteen traders who sold rice at higher than the fixed prices and outdated food items were nabbed by the Consumer Affairs Authority (CAA) investigation officers in the Kurunegala District yesterday (13). They had sold rice at Rs. 110 per kilo.

Under the guidance of the Kurunegala District Secretary R.M.R. Rathnayake, the raids to nab these errant traders were conducted in the Narammala and Nikaweratiya towns in the Kurunegala District. About 456 traders who had sold expired food items in the Kurunegala District have been arrested in December this year.

"About 450 special CAA investigation officers have been deployed in the Kurunegala and Puttalam Districts to nab errant traders during this festive season," Kurunegala District Secretary said.
