Salindu Malmina of Nalanda, Minuwangoda passes 1000 run mark

Salindu Malmina, 17 year old left hand middle order batsman of Nalanda Boys School, Minuwangoda passed the 1000 run milestone of the Under 19 Division III inter Schools Cricket (two day) tournament conducted by Sri Lanka Schools Cricket association. He was the first batsman to pass 1000 runs in his school's history.

Salindu Malmina scored 1001 runs in 14 matches with three centuries and four half centuries in the last school Cricket season. His best batting performance is 171 runs against D. S. Senanayake Central College Mirigama. He made two centuries against Welapura MV Kalutara (133) and Lyceum International School Wattala (105). He made four fifties against St. Mary’s Matugama (90), St. Thomas Kotte (86), De La Salle Colombo (80*) and Welapura MV Kalutara (68).

Nalanda Boys School Minuwangoda entered the quarter final in the division three two day tournament. (Due to the prevailing health concerns (Covid-19), the SLSCA decided to postpone the ongoing Under 19 all tournament matches until further notice.

Salindu Malmina commenced his cricket career at Nalanda Boy’s School Minuwangoda under Omila Wickramasinghe Cricket coach of the school. Salindu represented the under 13 team in 2015. He scored more than 200 runs in division three tournament. Nalanda Boys School Minuwangoda entered the quarter final and was promoted to division two from 2016. He led the school under 13 team in division two tournament in 2016. He scored over 400 runs. Nalanda Boys School Minuwangoda advanced to the semi final and was promoted to division One from year 2017.

He represented the school under 15 team and scored more than 350 runs in 2017. He represented the Gampaha District Zone III under 15 team for the Prima Champions Trophy inter district tournament conducted by Sri Lanka Cricket. He led the school under 15 team and made 662 runs with a century in 2018. He led the Gampaha District Zone III under 15 team in the Prima Champions Trophy inter district tournament conducted by Sri Lanka Cricket in the same year.

He represented the school first XI team as a fresher but scored only 286 runs in the season of 2017/2018. He represented the school under 19 team and he scored 856 runs with a century and six half centuries in the season of 2018/19. He represented the school under 17 team and he scored over 200 runs in 2019.
