CA quashes indictments against Minister Janaka Bandara Tennakoon

The Court of Appeal has issued an order quashing the operation of indictments filed against Minister Janaka Bandara Tennakoon at Kandy High Court over an alleged murder that took place in 1999.

The Court of Appeal two-judge-Bench comprising Justice (President) A.H.M.D. Nawaz and Justice Sobhitha Rajakaruna made this order pursuant to a writ petition filed by Minister Janaka Bandara Tennakoon.

The Court of Appeal ruled that the Attorney General had filed indictments against the petitioner contrary to the laws.

In his petition, Minister Janaka Bandara Tennakoon alleged that indictments had been filed against him in an arbitrary manner during the Yahapalanaya regime in power.

The Attorney General had filed indictments against Minister Tennakoon in connection with an incident where a man was shot dead and another was injured in Matale during an election campaign in 1999.
