Hasith Nayanajith cricketing prodigy from Dammissara MMV

Fourth year under thirteen player, right hand batsman, right arm medium pace bowler, all rounder top order batsman, captain of the Dammissara Madya Maha Vidyalaya, Naththandiya junior cricket team, Konara Mudiyanselage Hasith Nayanajith excelled for his school in cricket. He is will play for the under 15 team this year.

Dammissara Vidyalaya which is popular for volleyball commenced cricket in 1983 and it was introduced to the school by Mrs. Gwen Herath when T. K. Ranaweera was the principal. The coach and Master In Charge of cricket was Mr. Randeni and there was a stoppage in 1990 and in 1993. Cricket was re started by an old boy and then Physical Training Instructor Channa Jayasekera with the coaches Lalith Wijethunga and Zavior Fernando and again came to a halt in 2000. Once again it was revived in 2006 by an old boy and Physical Training Instructor of the school and present Prefect of Games, Keerthi Jayasekera and the coaches were Tharanga Liyanapathirana and Ruchira Nuwan.

Noticing the talents of his son Hasith his cricket loving father Danushka Sanjeewa Bandara taught him the basics of cricket and he was send to Naththandiya Cricket Academy. Hasith was trained under Tharanga Liyanapathirana and Nuwan Ruchira. At the age of nine he attended for under 13 cricket practices and got selected in 2016. In his first year he played in five matches and in the following year he scored 150 runs with the top score of 64 runs versus Mayurapada Vidyalaya. Meanwhile in 2018 he was the vice captain and passed the 300 mark with four half centuries and scored a fifty in 16 balls against Defense College, Kurunegala. In the last season he collected 563 runs in six outings with four successive centuries with the top score being 143 runs against Saranankara Vidyalaya at a Bradmansque average of 140.8 which is a record for his school and perhaps it may be a schools record too. In addition he claimed 24 wickets with three five wicket hauls under coach Charuka Heshan.

With these performances under his belt he was selected to the first eleven cricket team in 2019/20 cricket season and is the “Baby of the Team”.

He missed a well deserved century by 9 runs against Ananda Vidyalaya, Chilaw. He is well supportive by the Principal Anil Pushpakumara, Deputy Principal Mrs. Nilmini Rodrigo, the coach and the Prefect of Games Keerthi Jayawickrama and the coaches Mr. Rohitha and Mr. Dulaj.

His four consecutive centuries are as follows: Vs Marawila Junior School 108, Vs Sranankara Vidyalaya 143, Vs 3. Parakrama Vidyalaya 123, Vs Ananda Vidyalaya, Chilaw 132 n/o
