A man in Maligawatte who has been placed under self-quarantine, was arrested by Police while travelling in a bus to Welikanda yesterday.
“This person in question was travelling in a bus to the Welikanda Hospital in Polonnaruwa to receive the autopsy report of his Father-in-Law who died of COVID-19. He was later admitted to the COVID-19 Ward of the Dambulla Hospital,” Public Health Inspector of the Dambulla Hospital R.M.Ranatunga said.
“It was reported that several family members of this person in the Maligawatte area have been identified as COVID-19 infected patients and the Father-in-Law is reported to have died from COVID-19 while undergoing treatment at the Welikanda Hospital,” Ranatunga added.
Health sources said that this person’s wife has also been identified as a COVID-19 infected person.
Sources further said that steps have been taken to send the PCR sample of this person to a laboratory in Kandy.
