Health Minister Pavithra Wanniarachchi has taken a number of decisions including the increase in the number of beds at COVID-19 treatment centres and emergency medical services, at the COVID-19 Virus Control Performance Action Review Committee meeting held yesterday.
The Minister also focused on improving the accuracy of PCR tests and providing training on COVID-19 emergency medical services to post-internship medical officers at this meeting.
The Committee consisting of Medical Administrators, Administrative Service Officers and Specialist Physicians will be chaired by Minister Wanniarachchi.
During the meeting, the Minister stressed that it is the responsibility of the Department of Health to monitor whether the Economic Centres, rented houses, schools and BOI Investment Promotion Zones (BOIs) in the Western Province are complying with health guidelines on the prevailing COVID-19 situation.
The Minister further instructed the officials to pay attention to the health of all health staff and to improve their transport, accommodation and other infrastructure facilities.
State Minister of Drug Production Supply and Regulation Prof. Channa Jayasumana, State Minister of Indigenous Medicine Promotion, Rural and Ayurvedic Hospitals Development and Community Health Sisira Jayakody, Secretary General of Health Maj. Gen. Sanjeewa Munasinghe and Director General of Health Services Dr. Asela Gunawardana also participated.
