A minor tremor was reported in Digana in Kandy yesterday morning, the fourth tremor in this area within a period of four months.

The Geological Survey and Mines Bureau (GS&MB) said the tremor measured 2.0 on the Richter scale and was recorded at the Pallekele Seismic Station.

The tremor was felt around 9.28 a.m. and the vibration lasted for about 30 seconds according to residents. People in Digana and the adjoining areas had felt the tremor.

Disaster Management Centre (DMC) Spokesman Pradeep Kodippili told the Daily News that there had been no property damage caused by the tremor.

The GS&MB was conducting further investigations.

Previously, minor tremors were reported in Kandy on August 29 and September 2 and 11. The GS&MB, after investigating the first two tremors, said in a preliminary report issued on September 4 that the events were a natural phenomenon related to stress release.
