Contempt of Court case against Ranjan Ramanayake fixed for December 8

The first Contempt of Court case gainst Samagi Jana Balawegaya (SJB) Parliamentarian Ranjan Ramanayake has been re-fixed for December 8 by the Supreme Court.

The Supreme Court has already reserved its judgment in the Contempt of Court case filed against Ranjan Ramanayake for allegedly scandalising the judiciary by making statements to the media.

The prosecution and respondents have already concluded testifying evidence in the case.

Judges of the Supreme Court had earlier determined to proceed with Contempt of Court charges against the Parliamentarian after perusing the transcript of the video footage pertaining to the alleged derogatory statement.

Ven. Magalkande Sudantha Thera and R.Sunil Perera, a retired Air Force Officer had made complaints to the Supreme Court seeking a Contempt of Court action against MP Ranjan Ramanayake for allegedly making insulting remarks on the reputation of the judiciary and lawyers, at a press conference on August 21, 2017.
