The Health Ministry yesterday reported another four fatalities from COVID-19, raising the overall death toll to 45.
According to the Director General of Health Services Dr Asela Gunawardane, a 80-year-old resident of Panadura had died while being admitted to the Police hospital. The post mortem examination had revealed that the deceased had contracted the coronavirus and the cause of death has been reported as a heart attack suffered as a result of COVID-19.
The second death reported yesterday was a 40-year-old man from Colombo 11 who had died while being warded at the Colombo National Hospital. The post mortem examination has revealed that the man had died due to a heart attack as a result of contracting the coronavirus.
The other victim was a 45-year-old male from Kelaniya who is reported to have been under medical care at the Hambantota hospital since being detected with the virus on November 1. The cause of death has been identified as a heart attack suffered as a result of COVID-19.
The fourth death was reported of a 68-year-old female, a resident of Maligawatte, Colombo 10. The post-mortem revealed that her death was caused by high blood pressure exacerbated by COVID-19 as the cause of death
According to Epidemiology Unit statistics, the number of COVID-19 recoveries in the country has increased to 10,183 with 646 recoveries reported yesterday .
Accordingly, the country’s confirmed COVID-19 positive cases stands at 14,715. However, 4,491 of them are still under medical care.
Meanwhile, the National Operations Centre for Prevention of COVID-19 Outbreak (NOCPCO) yesterday stated that the total number of COVID-19 positive cases reported from the Minuwangoda garment factory stands at 11,237. Of them, 1,041 are factory employees, 1,007 persons from the Peliyagoda Fish Market cluster and the other 9,189 are locally-identified contacts of those garment factory-infected employees and from the fish market.
Within the day (11), eight quarantined individuals left for their homes after PCR tests. Of them, one is from the Dikwella Resort Quarantine Centre, two persons are from the Hotel Wind Beach Quarantine Centre and five persons are from Rachel Resort Kalpitiya Quarantine Centre.
To-date, 64,263 individuals have left for homes after quarantining. As of yesterday morning (11), 2,277 persons are still in quarantine at 28 Tri-Service-managed Quarantine Centres. On Tuesday (10), 8,272 PCR tests were carried out across the country and the total PCR tests conducted so far stands at 619,108.
