Minister urged for PCR machine for Kalutara

Kalutara Regional Health Services Director Dr.Udaya Ratnayake made a request to the Minister Rohitha Abeygunawardena to provide the Kalutara Hospital with a PCR machine immediately since the number of COVID-19 positive persons is on the rise in the district.

A discussion was held at the Kalutara District Secretariat Auditorium by the Kalutara Government Agent (GA) Ginige Prasanna to discuss shortcomings and related issues in the district COVID-10 controlling measures recently.

He said that the PCR test reports have been delayed, since there is a severe shortage of equipment at the hospital.

State Minister Jayantha Samaraweera said that those who tested COVID-19 positive in the area should be quarantined in the district without sending them to far away hospitals. He urged the health authorities to send such patients to the Pasdunrata Education College, which has already been transformed into a Corona Treatment Center.

However, the health authorities said that at least 1,000 beds should be made ready for the COVID-19 patients to fulfill the State Minister’s request.

Minister Rohitha Abeygunawardena told the Divisional Secretaries to expedite distributing Rs. 5000, Rs,10,000 and relief packages to the affected and those who are under quarantine and in locked-down areas. Kalutara District COVID-19 Prevention Co-ordination Committee Chairman Sanjeewa Edirimanna, Regional Health Services Director Dr.Udaya Ratnayake, Health Authorities, Tri-forces personnel, OICs, Grama Niladharis, Development Officers and Civil Service personnel and many others participated.
