Former Pakistan Captain, Moin Khan and the coach of the Galle Gladiators’ Team has picked his son Azam Khan as one of the overseas players for the Lanka Premier League (LPL) Twenty20 Cricket Tournament, which begins in Hambantota next month.

The 22-year-old stocky wicket-keeper batsman is set to play a major role for his new franchise following an excellent run of success during the Pakistan Super League (PSL) Tournament in the United Arab Emirates.

In fact, the aggressive right-hander will be an automatic choice for the Galle Gladiators who are set to meet the Colombo Kings in the curtain raiser of this inaugural 23-match tournament on November 22 at the Mahinda Rajapaksa Stadium.

He made his Twenty20 debut for Quetta Gladiators against Islamabad United in the PSL in March, 2019 and since then he has turned out to be a consistent run-getter for his side. Azam Khan of course, initially made his mark at the Moin Khan Cricket Academy in Karachi under the guidance of his father who was also the pioneer in setting up the academy.

“My dad has supported me throughout, I feel indebted to him and at the same time it is such a wonderful feeling to be backed by a legend of the game,” Azam told reporters after a net session.

“He understands everything and is very rarely fully satisfied with my performances, as he always wants me to strive harder and harder.”

“We talk a lot about cricket and have quality discussions at home, which are a big opportunity to learn about the game at a young age,” he added.

Incidentally, young Azam Khan will have the opportunity of associating some of the biggest T20 stars in the international scene including Sri Lanka’s ace fast bowler, Lasith Malinga.

In addition, he will have the company of some of his compatriots too including Pakistan Skipper Sarfaraz Ahmed, former Pakistan Captain, Shahid Afridi and paceman Mohammad Amir.
