Twenty-four new COVID-19 cases from Koggala Quarantine Centre

Another 24 persons who had been quarantined at a Koggala hotel tested positive for COVID-19 on Wednesday, the Galle District Health Services Director’s office stated. The group belongs to the Miniwaungoda Brandix cluster and their close associates, they added.

Since the establishment of this quarantine centre on October 5, 260 persons have been found to be infected with the virus up to October 19; all of the patients have been hospitalised. With the 24 new cases detected yesterday, the total COVID-19 patients reported from the centre has risen to 284.

The 24 patients found yesterday were referred to the Colombo Infectious Diseases Hospital, and Teldeniya and Hambantota hospitals. Ambulances of other hospitals of the districts were obtained to transport the patients. At present, 600 persons are being quarantined at Koggala quarantine centre. Furthermore, 62 persons are being quarantined at Habaraduwa Nila Piyasa Quarantine Centre; among them there are 6 marine security persons, 45 police officers, 7 Brandix employees, and 4 employees of the Panadura hospital, health authorities added.
