Sugarcane growing encouraged

The Sri Lanka Sugar Company Pelwatta Unit initiated growing 5,000 hectares with sugarcane and 150 hectares of them were cultivated with sugar cane in Gomadiywela, Ethliwewa recently. Abandoned chenas will be taken to cultivate sugarcanes. After harvesting, farmers can repay the loans that they obtained to grow sugarcane with interest of 8 per cent.

Paddy and Cereals, Organic Food, Vegetables, Fruits, Chilies, Onions and Potatoes, Seed Production and High Tech Agriculture State Minister Shasheendra Rajapaksa, Parliamentarians Jagath Pushpakumara, Kumarasiri Ratnayake and Sri Lanka Sugar Company Chairman Janaka Nimalachandra were present.
