167 curfew violators arrested

One hundred and sixty-seven persons were arrested yesterday evening over curfew violations from 19 areas in the Gampaha District, Police Spokesman DIG Ajith Rohana said.

“167 persons were arrested, along with 40 vehicles, including motorcycles. These persons were arrested for violating police curfew in the areas where curfew has been imposed due to the outbreak of the Coronavirus in the district.”

Long-distance buses will be allowed to pass through the curfew areas. However, they will not be allowed to load and unload passengers. However, no restrictions had been made for the students sitting for the GCE Advanced Level examination, the spokesman added.

Nearly two weeks after the Minuwangoda cluster was detected in the Gampaha District when a factory worker tested positive for the coronavirus (which, within days, spread to several parts in the district and later to other parts of the country), currently, over 1,500 active COVID-19 cases have been reported thus far.
