Speaker Mahinda Yapa Abeywardena yesterday said that he was surprised to see the news reports on the Supreme Court determination on the 20th Amendment to the Constitution before he opened the SC determination on the proposed Amendment sent by the Supreme Court yesterday.
The Supreme Court determination, which is confidential, is delivered to the President and the Speaker. He said that his office at the Parliament Complex had received the Supreme Court determination on the 20th Amendment on October 09 and it was opened in the presence of three officials yesterday (12)
He said that he would apprise Parliament of the SC determination on the 20th Amendment on October 20 and a Special Party Leaders Meeting will also be convened within this week to fix dates for the debate on the 20A debate.
He said that the Party Leaders Meeting will discuss how this debate is conducted and the number of dates to be allocated for it among other matters.
