Ruwan vows to revive UNP

United National Party Deputy Leader Ruwan Wijewardene vowed to restore people’s confidence in UNP with a series of measures to boost the party’s image and a new programme of work to attract the public.

The UNP deputy leader while participating in the first event in a series to reorganize the party in Matara on Saturday said he was confident the new measure in the pipeline will bring back former party supporters who distanced themselves as well as attract new ones. He said that the frustrated party members had left the party due to the unpaid attention on their issues while in power and now the party will take steps to bring them back closer and revive the party.

“The reorganisation of the party began in Matara. All former MPs, electoral organisers, local government representatives and party members met and discussed regarding our future procedures. We are taking the party forward again with the objective of reunifying party members and the supporters”. And also he said that the UNP always acted upon the advice of monks and will continue to work with the blessings of the Mahanayake Theras and the Sangha. He also opened a new party office in the Matara town.
