A health policy will be formulated to ensure the quality of mental health services, Health Minister Pavithra Wanniarachchi said.
She was addressing the 17th Annual Academic Sessions of Sri Lanka Collage of Psychiatrists in Colombo yesterday under the theme of ‘Achieving Clinical Excellence in Psychiatry’.
The Minister said that persons with mental diseases should be treated with respect just as all the other patients, and this idea should be promoted in society.
Minister Wanniarachchi said that mental patients should be treated with kindness by health staffs and others. Now district state hospitals offer mental health services.
“Sri Lankan psychiatrists provide commendable service even though they can go abroad and earn more money,” the Minister said.
