Sri Lanka Cricket has organised Lanka Premier League (LPL) Cricket tournament which will be held from November 14 to December 6.

The tournament Director of LPL Ravin Wickramaratne who also the Vice President of SLC said that they have already made arrangements to conduct this tournament which will generate a major income for SLC as well as develop cricket. "Actually we couldn’t hold the domestic league after 2012 and all the players and officials pointed out the importance of the domestic league tournament that’s why we planed to conduct this type of tournament, said the tournament Director.

After Covid 19 – epidemic, we haven’t major international cricket tournament in Sri Lanka, that’s why SLC Exco Committee decided to conduct this tournament. In addition all other countries are not playing cricket due to covid 19 epidemic and this is the best opportunity to get international players for this type of league tournament. SLC has sold the right of hosting LPL to Dubai based company IPG (Innovative Production Group) according to the tender procedure for five years and will have nearly two million dollar income per year. Ten international companies came forward to host this IPL finally IPG got this chance with best benefits for the SLC.

"We had seven foreign cricket series for this year and already six of them were cancelled due to Covid 19. Sri Lankan cricket fans are waiting to see this exciting tournament, said the LPL tournament director.

He also said the number of local icon players increase in LPL from five players to six due to injury concerns of Kusal Janith Perera and added Niroshan Dikwella. Lasith Malinga, Angelo Matthews, Thisara Perera and Dasun Shanaka are the other local icon players Each of them get highest payment of 60, 000 dollars each. The tournament will feature 23 games and

will be played across Sri Lanka’s day night international stadiums Sooriyawewa, Dambulla and Pallekele. These icon players should bring to the teams by franchisers. Chris Gayle, Sahid Afridi, Mushfiqar Rahim, Tamim Iqbal, Sahib- Ul Hasan Dwayne Smith, Jonny Bairstow and Luke Wright also have named icon player from the foreign players list added LPL Director .

Actually we already forwarded to the players list as well as coaches list to IPG and players draft (this is not player auction like other league tournaments) will be held on 1st October through online system. They can select the players after considering the players list. The five teams will be named after five cities of Colombo, Galle, Jaffna, Dambulla and Kandy and each team will have six foreign players. Team Galle has already been sold to a Pakistani franchise. But the other franchises are requesting the final players list and we hope to finalise it very soon, added LPL Director. After finalize the teams we hope to submit all team players names for the consideration of ICC anti-corruption unit. SLC also have two anti – corruption officials and we are going to appoint another three officials to serve under these two main officials for investigation matters and they will be always with the teams to monitor match fixing.

LPL tournament Director also added we already discussed with Health officials from last month and their approval is needed to conduct this tournament at this moment .Especially 14 days quarantine day period for the players and officials and social distance rule for the spectators.

We had a discussion with the Army Commander Lt General Shavendra Silva regarding this matter last week. The Army Commander made some suggestions to the forthcoming Bangladesh series. We have already informed all the foreign players of LPL for 14 days quarantine period and hope they will give a favourable response to this suggestion.

Sport Minister Namal Rajpaksa gave his blessings to conduct this LPL successfully, said LPL Director. He also pointed out that they have an idea to conduct a T-10 tournament with foreign players after this LPL from December 10.
