An anti-drug youth conference was held at the Al-Marjan Muslim Ladies College in Sammanthurai recently.

The conference, ‘Let’s make drugs a free society’ was chaired by Sri Lanka Eastern Youth Organisation President Thanis Rahmatullah. He said that youth consume drugs mostly now. “The use of mobile phone plays a pivotal role in selling and buying drugs. Many social service organisations hold awareness programmes for eradicating drugs but the menace is still there,” he said.

JJ Foundation Chairman L.Y.M. Haneef was Chief Guest and Sammanthurai Divisional Secretary S.L.M. Haneefa was Guest of Honour, while Attorney-at-Law Ariff Samsudeen was Guest Speaker. Former Deputy Mayor Akkaraipattu MC A.G.Asmy, National Drugs Control Board Eastern Province Coordinator B.M. Rashid, Social Reforms Officer A.M. Nisar and Sri Lanka Eastern Youth Organization Senior Advisor and Media Coordinator S. Ashraf Khan were present.
