Hemantha appointed to top ABC post

Sri Lanka Boxing Association Secretary Rt Colonel Hemantha Weerasinghe has been appointed as a Secretary of the Asian Boxing Confederation Referees (ABC) and Judges (R&J) Commission for the second consecutive time.

The experienced boxing referee Weerasinghe was a National referee and Judge from 2016, FAAB R&J from 2006 and AIBA 1Star R&J since 2010 and qualified as an international technical official from 2013 and has been a R&J Evaluator at many international boxing tournaments . He also serves the role of International Technical Delegate. The dedicated Boxing official has been an Executive Committee member of the Sri Lanka Boxing Association from 2013 to date.

Weerasinghe has held numerous administrative position in Sri Lanka as well as in Asian Boxing Confederation. He was the Assistant Secretary of Sri Lanka Boxing Association (2004-2006), Secretary 2007-2010 and once again this time has been appointed Secretary of the National Boxing Association. He was also a Vice President of the Boxing Referees and Judges Association of Sri Lanka (2012-2017) and later was appointed Secretary of the Asian Boxing Confederation R&J Commission in 2015.

Hemantha Weerasinghe played boxing for the St Sylvester’s College Kandy since 1980 and captained the College boxing team in 1984 and went on to win Best Boxer award in the Stubbs Shield. He was a former flyweight National champion and also represented Sri Lanka at Asian Boxing Championships in 1984 and second South Asian Games in 2015 held in Thailand and Bangladesh respectively.
