State Minister inspects Chunnakam IDP Welfare Camp

Rural Housing, Construction, Building Materials and Industries Promotion State Minister Indika Anuruddha participated an inspection tour of the Sabapathy Pillai Welfare Camp in Chunnakam, recently.

The state minister also visited the construction site of the housing project implemented to provide homes for internally-displaced persons (IDPs) at the camp. According to State Ministry sources, around 409 persons belonging to 56 families are currently staying at this camp.

State Minister Anuruddha said that a large number of families who lived in IDP camps for about 30 years were successfully resettled under the former President Mahinda Rajapaksa’s rule. But due to certain politicians, some internally-displaced persons in the country still remain in welfare camps.

“However, as the country now has a leader who is well-aware about the cruelty of war and the facilities that should be provided for war-affected people, there is no need for any struggles to win the rights of such people. The present Government is committed to providing relief to these people within the next two to three months,” he added.

State Minister Anuruddha further said that the culture of Tamil politicians living in Colombo using Tamil civilians in the North and East for their own political gain has been changed.

Jaffna District Palrimantarian Angajan Ramanadan and State Ministry Secretary Ranjith Abeysinghe also participated in the event.
